My name is Hsi-Ling Liao. I am a Research Director at the University of Chicago Inclusive Economy Lab (IEL) and a Research Associate at the Harris School of Public Policy.
My research focuses on the intersection of urban economics, housing policy, and social inequality. I use experimental and quasi-experimental methods to study how public policies can improve housing affordability, stability, and access to opportunity. At IEL, I lead a portfolio of studies on housing stability and homelessness prevention. I have also worked on research that examines the impact of changes in land-use regulations (“rezoning”) on the local housing market and residential mobility patterns.
Prior to joining the Inclusive Economy Lab, I was a Doctoral Fellow at the NYU Furman Center for Real Estate and Urban Policy. I received my Ph.D. in Public Policy from the New York University Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.
